Antonio Salieri: La Fiera di Venezia
Antonio Salieri wrote his comic opera La fiera di Venezia at the age of just 22, and it was premiered in 1772. A considerable success, it remained in the European repertoire for years, although it is only now being rediscovered thanks to L’arte del mondo orchestra and choir and music director Werner Ehrhardt. Set in Venice during the Ascension Fair, the opera features three couples from different levels of society who are cast into confusion during a masked ball.
