Berlioz: La Damnation de Faust
For Berlioz's opera/oratorio hybrid La damnation de Faust, conductor John Nelson reunites the team with which he made the phenomenally successful 2017 recording of the same composer's Les troyens. Singers Joyce DiDonato, Michael Spyres and Nicolas Courjal again assume lead roles alongside the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. Based on Goethe's telling of the Faust legend and first performed in 1846, this is "the most dramatic piece that Berlioz ever wrote," according to Nelson.
