“My last performance in the long series of subscription concerts that I played in as a member of the Wiener Philharmoniker, is characterized by tremendous gratitude. In Jörg Widmann's "Flûte en suite," I have the richness of sound and colour from the orchestral groups, which Widmann lets speak so imaginatively with the solo flute, as well as enjoying immediate, spontaneous music-making with Christian Thielemann. As a soloist, I got to experience his musical flair and his outstanding conducting skills more immediately than ever before: making music in the Goldener Saal – I can hardly imagine anything more beautiful. My encore, the Sarabande from Partita BWV 1013, is simply meant as a thank-you to Johann Sebastian Bach, who inspired Widmann's suite to a great extent."
