John Adams: Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?

BBC Music Magazine Choice. John Adams’s acclaimed piano concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes? was premiered in 2019 and toured around the world with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel and soloist Yuja Wang. It is inspired by the traditional “Totentanz” or “dance of death”, infused with American-style funk. This world premiere recording was made live at Walt Disney Concert Hall in November 2019. Adams’s solo piano work China Gates concludes the album.
