La Passione: Nono, Haydn & Grisey
Barbara Hannigan sings and conducts the Ludwig Orchestra on an album that moves from the late 20th century to the 18th, and back again. Drawing on themes of the Passion and death, she sings Luigi Nono’s moving and political Djamila Boupachà for solo soprano before conducting Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 “La Passione”. Finally, she conducts and sings Gérard Grisey’s startling meditation on death, Quatre chants pour franchir le seuil.
