Offenbach
Cellist Raphaela Gromes marks Jacques Offenbach's 2019 bicentenary with an album of his music for cello. Though better known today as the composer of operettas and Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Offenbach was also a virtuoso performer known in his day as "the Liszt of the cello". His works for the instrument include a number of miniatures with piano accompaniment – pianist here is Julian Riem – as well as the Duo for Two Cellos, for which Gromes is joined by Wen-Sinn Yang. The three performers also play an arrangement of the famous Barcarolle together.
