About this event
Franz Welser-Möst, Honorary President of the St. Florian Boys' Choir, conducts a concert celebrating the choir’s 950th anniversary.
The main work on the programme is the thrilling Mass in D minor by Anton Bruckner, who was himself a St. Florian choirboy. To perform the work, which marked Bruckner's breakthrough as a composer, choir and conductor will be joined by the Bruckner Orchester Linz and soloists Alois Mühlbacher, Matthäus Schmidlechner and Klemens Sander.
For 19 years, Franz Welser-Möst has shaped an unmistakable sound culture as Musical Director of the Cleveland Orchestra. With the orchestra he appears at all the major festivals and has made numerous CD and DVD recordings, for which he has been awarded with several international prizes. He regularly appears as guest conductor for numerous renowned orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic, which he has already conducted twice at their celebrated New Year’s Concert.
The Bruckner Orchestra Linz, which looks back on a 200-year history, was awarded Best Orchestra of the Year at the Musiktheaterpreis in 2020. Its home is the new Musiktheater Linz and its functions include appearances at international music festivals and concert tours all over the world.
The St. Florian Boys' Choir has existed since 1071 and is thus one of the oldest boys' choirs in the world. The choir regularly performs at important festivals and frequently collaborates with famous orchestras and conductors.
