The Hofkapelle München has earned an outstanding reputation as a leading ensemble in historical performance practice, particularly for the repertoire of the German Baroque and Classical periods. Under the artistic direction of conductor Rüdiger Lotter, the Hofkapelle München performs on major stages such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, "De Singel" in Antwerp, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles, and the NOSPR in Katowice. The orchestra is regularly invited to prestigious festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the MA Festival Bruges, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, the Regensburg Days of Early Music, and the Warsaw Chopin Festival. The orchestra maintains close connections with the Bavarian Radio Choir, the Regensburger Domspatzen, the Chorwerk Ruhr, and the Chor der KlangVerwaltung München. Starting in 2024, the Hofkapelle München will also have its own professional choir to further focus on the repertoire of the Munich court of the 16th and 17th centuries.
The Hofkapelle München is also active in the field of opera, having had a long-standing partnership with the Bavarian Theater Academy, resulting in numerous acclaimed opera productions. Independent productions or co-productions with concert halls or festivals such as the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Cologne Philharmonie, or the Konzerthaus Blaibach, continued in 2022 with the opera "The Philosopher's Stone or The Enchanted Island" with financial support from the federal government.
In 2024, the Hofkapelle München will bring Mozart's "The Magic Flute" to the stage in co-production with the Herrenchiemsee Festival and the Konzerthaus Blaibach, adding the most famous of all Schikaneder operas to their repertoire.
