NATURAL LEGENDS - Laurent Naouri and Jocelyn Freeman
About this event
SongEasel's 2022 series, Icons & Legends, celebrated a notorious dinner meeting in Paris in May 1922 hosted by Violet and Sydney Schiff after the premiere of Igor Stravinsky's Le Renard, including Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Pablo Picasso, and Sergei Diaghilev. This performance by legendary bass-baritone Laurent Naouri and acclaimed pianist and curator Jocelyn Freeman, introduced by Anna Ovsyanikova, pays homage to the meeting of these creative legends. With insightful commentaries from the performers, the recital presents the world premiere of four songs by Mathieu Crickboom (1871-1947) with a mid-recital introduction from the world's leading Crickboom expert alongside two portrayals of the Don Quixote legend by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) and Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). Poulenc's (1899-1963) illustration of various painters of the time, Le Travail Du Peintre, opens the event.
This stream is available to watch until December 9, 2022.
