A Choral Christmas

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without choral music. Nothing expresses the joy, togetherness and warmth of the festive season like massed voices singing tunes many of us know and love. But there was Christmas music long before the festival of 'Christmas' as we know it was formulated in the nineteenth century. Our Christmas playlist contains some of the best-known traditional seasonal tunes and carols, but stretches back to the 1500s to include sacred polyphony for the season of advent and to the 1600s and the birth of the cantata tradition.
