Debussy: Les Trois Sonates - Faust, Melnikov, Queyras, de Williencourt, Perianes, Maistre, Tamestit, Mosnier
Quarterly Critics' Choice 1.2019 - German Record Critics' Award. One hundred years after the death of Claude Debussy, many excellent recordings have appeared. This album of the three late sonatas is an example of the formidable level at which French musicians - among others - approach this genius of clarity. Colour, structure, and contour intertwine with sensitivity and precision; to describe the playing of the artists participating in this recording, from violinist Faust to harpist de Maistre, would be to describe Debussy himself. Everything is transparent and ever more more poetically profound, always "léger et nerveux". The sound engineer should be mentioned in the same breath as the musicians. A treasure!
