Alwyn: Miss Julie
In the 1970s, August Strindberg’s classic 1888 play Miss Julie was transformed into an opera by the British composer William Alwyn. Though it has seldom been performed, Alwyn’s work has been critically acclaimed. Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra made this recording in 2019 following a successful concert performance, with soprano Anna Patalong in the title role and bass-baritone Benedict Nelson as Julie’s valet, Jean.
