Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 & Choral Fantasy
BBC Music Magazine Choice. The Freiburger Barockorchester and conductor Pablo Heras-Casado perform that most celebrated of all symphonies, Beethoven’s Ninth, alongside the lesser-known work that paved its way: the Choral Fantasy in C minor. This almost improvisatory piece begins with music for solo piano and orchestra, before a chorus joins. Piano soloist here is Kristian Bezuidenhout, and the chorus is the Zürcher Sing-Akademie. Soloists for the Choral Symphony include soprano Christiane Karg and baritone Florian Boesch.
