Shostakovich: Symphony No. 13 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 113 “Babi Yar”
Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13 takes its title from the Yevgeny Yevtushenko poem “Babi Yar”, concerning a Nazi massacre of Jews in 1941. The composer additionally sets another four poems by Yevtushenko, all of which combine to offer a fascinating insight into the realities of Soviet life. Conducted by Kirill Karabits, the Russian National Orchestra is joined by bass Oleg Tsibulko, the Popov Academy of Choral Arts Choir, and the Kozhevnikov Choir.
