Libertà!
Between 1782 and 1786, Mozart completed no operas, in search for the perfect material – which he eventually found thanks to Lorenzo Da Ponte. But he did write a good deal of dramatic music during that time. He wrote two uncompleted comic operas – L’oca del Cairo and Lo sposo deluso– as well as concert arias and some exercises. This is the music presented on Raphaël Pichon and his ensemble Pygmalion’s album, who collaborate with six top singers including Sabine Devieilhe to shine a light on Mozart in the years just before his much-loved Da Ponte trilogy.
