Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol, Op. 34, Russian Easter Festival Overture, Op. 36 & Scheherazade, Op. 35
Vasily Petrenko and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra perform the music of Rimsky-Korsakov. In his youth, Rimsky-Korsakov enrolled as a naval cadet and spent several years traveling the world. Though in later life he stayed in Russia, his work often hinted at the exotic and faraway. The Capriccio Espagnol draws on Spanish folk music, while Scheherazade is inspired by One Thousand and One Nights. Completing the album is something a little closer to home: the vibrant Russian Easter Festival Overture.
